Privacy Policy
Last updated: 15 October 2026
Tab Tracker ("the Extension") is a browser extension designed to provide users with an easy way to manage their open tabs. Your privacy is important to us, and we are committed to protecting it. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how it is used, and your rights concerning your information.
1. Information We Collect
The Extension does not collect or transmit any personal data. Specifically:
- Tab Data: The titles and URLs of open tabs are only accessed locally within your browser for the purpose of displaying, organizing, copying, and exporting them. This data is not sent to any server or third party.
- Saved Sessions: If you choose to save a session, the titles and URLs of those tabs are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's extension storage. They stay on your device until you delete the session or uninstall the Extension.
- Preferences: Your display settings (such as theme, sort order, and copy format) are stored locally in your browser and never leave your device.
- No Tracking: The Extension does not track or monitor your browsing activity.
2. How We Use Your Data
The data accessed by the Extension is used exclusively to:
- Display, search, and switch between your open tabs.
- Close tabs, group them by domain, and reorder or move them between windows.
- Allow you to copy or export URLs for personal use.
- Save and reopen sessions of tabs that you choose to save.
- Show the number of open tabs on the Extension's toolbar icon.
- Show which tabs you haven't used recently, and unload (put to sleep) tabs you choose to free up memory. This uses Chrome's record of when each tab was last opened, which never leaves your browser.
- If you turn on history search, search your browsing history for pages that match what you type, so you can reopen them. History is only read while you search, is never stored or copied by the Extension, and never leaves your browser.
All data is processed locally on your device and is never shared. The only data stored is the sessions and preferences described above.
3. Data Sharing
We do not share, sell, or rent any data collected or accessed by the Extension. Your information remains private and is never transmitted to external servers.
4. Permissions
The Extension requires the following browser permissions:
- Tabs: Used to read the titles and URLs of your open tabs, and to switch to, close, move, and reorder them. This data is processed locally and is never transmitted.
- Tab Groups: Used to create, name, and remove Chrome tab groups when you use the Group feature.
- Storage: Used to save your sessions and preferences locally in your browser. Nothing is synced or sent to any server.
- Side Panel: Used to show Tab Tracker in Chrome's side panel if you choose to open it there instead of the popup.
- History (optional): Requested only if you choose to search your browsing history. Used to find pages matching your search. You can turn it off at any time from the History section or Chrome's extension settings.
- Favicon (optional): Requested together with History. Used to show website icons next to history results, using icons Chrome has already saved.
5. Security
We take appropriate measures to ensure that the Extension operates securely and respects your privacy. The Extension's code does not include any functionality to store, transmit, or misuse your data.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in the Extension's functionality or legal requirements. Changes will be posted on this page with the updated date.
